Help Us Bring Engineering into Classrooms Across Ohio
The future of Ohio’s engineering workforce starts long before a student chooses a college major or applies for their first internship. Sometimes, it starts with a simple opportunity to discover what engineers do and see just how exciting engineering can be.
That’s why the ACEC Ohio Workforce Development Committee is preparing a new classroom outreach initiative for Engineers Week 2027.
Our goal is to connect ACEC Ohio members with students across our four chapter regions of Ohio, bringing hands-on engineering activities directly into classrooms and introducing students to the possibilities of a future career in engineering.
Engineering Activities for Every Age
The Workforce Development Committee is developing three age-appropriate engineering activities designed specifically for:
- Grades 3–5
- Middle school students
- High school students
Committee members will test each activity before the program launches to ensure the instructions are easy for volunteers to follow, materials are accessible, and the activities provide an engaging experience for students.
ACEC Ohio will also develop portable activity kits that can be distributed throughout our chapter regions, making it easier for members to volunteer without having to create a classroom presentation or activity from scratch.
How Members Can Get Involved
As we get closer to Engineers Week, ACEC Ohio will be looking for members across the state who are willing to volunteer for classroom visits. We’ll provide the activity, instructions and materials. You bring your experience, enthusiasm, and perspective as an engineering professional.
Members will also have the opportunity to invite a client to join them for a classroom visit, providing another way to strengthen industry relationships while giving back to your local community.
Whether you help us connect with a school, volunteer in a classroom, or encourage someone else at your firm to participate, every connection helps us introduce more young people to engineering.

Building the Pipeline Together
Strengthening Ohio’s engineering workforce is a long-term effort, and K–12 outreach is an important part of building that pipeline. ACEC Ohio has identified attracting, retaining, and training a skilled workforce as one of its strategic objectives, and this initiative puts that commitment into action.
Watch for more information in the coming months about school connections, volunteer opportunities and how your firm can participate in Engineers Week 2027.
Together, we can bring engineering into classrooms across Ohio and help students begin imagining themselves as the engineers of the future.
