ACEC Ohio Committee Update
Communications Committee- The committee completed a website revamp as well as the launch of our Proud Member Campaign in October. The committee met their goal of increasing the Engineering Excellence Awards submission with 32 entries. Lastly, the committee continues to monitor social media website metrics for success. Environment & Energy Committee- The committee hosted a Water Forum in September where we heard from OEPA & ODNR. Click here to view the agenda. The committee also had OEPA as a guest speaker and gained insight on the office and programs offered, deadlines for applications and what ACEC members can do to help clients remain in compliance. Government Affairs Committee -The committee continues to monitor key bills including HB 159-Indemnification Bill, SB 2 – Watershed Programs/ HB 7- Create H20 Trust Fund, SB 136-Payment Assurance. Member Services Committee - The committee continues to reach out to targeted firms, including the ACEC National Target List of ENR 500 companies in Ohio. Each committee member has picked 5 firms to target. They have created a new onboarding process for new members. They are focused on retaining member firms by involvement and assisting in creating quality programs and activities for chapter programming. The committee will meet again on February 6, 2020. Political Action Committee (PAC)-The committee is wrapping up with an extremely successful year; we have met our National PAC goal for the fourth year in a row! We will be hosting an ACEC Ohio PAC Appreciation Luncheon for those who met their PAC goals this year on January 10, 2020. We will be hosting the PAC Kick Off Event on Thursday, February 13 at the Ohio Statehouse. To view the PAC page for more information, click here.
Rising Leader Committee- The committee launched the Rising Leader Program that began in late August; this training program includes 6-half day sessions covering 6 topics; 25.5 hours of learning. The Rising Leader Program consists of 20 participants from 20 different member firms. Our final session on Strategic Business Process will take place on Thursday, January 23, 2020. Scholarship Committee- The committee will award four scholarships totaling $2,500 each. The committee has reached out to University contacts with ABET accredited engineering or surveying programs in Ohio. The deadline for scholarship applications is Friday, January 10. The scholarship committee will then grade applications with organized grading subcommittees. For more information on our Scholarship Program, click here.
Small Firms Committee - The committee heard from Scot Gormley with ODOT about most common items that are disallowed in overhead rate calculations, general understand if FAR overhead computation and more.The committee will meet again on February 19, 2020. State Public Works Committee- The committee continues to meet with OFCC leadership through the ACEC Ohio/AIA Liaison Committee. The group has created a resource documents defining in detail what public officials need to know about planning and delivering projects. Click here to read the publication. Transportation Committee -The committee continues to meet and receive updates from the ODOT Liaison Committee, OTIC Liaison Committee & Alternative Delivery Committee. Mat Mauger and Dave Holstein with ODOT provided updates on ODOT Division of Engineering and Open Roads Design. The committee will meet again on February 13, 2020.
